So, we hear you ask, how can an industry the size and scale of MAC – along with thousands of associated subcontractors – go completely CarbonZero?
With help from experts at co2balance, members first evaluated all their processes – from production to delivery and installation – cutting as many unnecessary carbon emissions as possible.
This left MAC with a 165kg surplus of carbon dioxide per tonne of mastic asphalt laid.
Through co2balance, council members are offsetting these harmful emissions by investing funds in energy efficient projects that absorb or prevent the exact tonnage of their Carbon Footprint.
These include:
- Providing energy efficient bulbs in Kenya
- Replacing kerosene lamps in East Africa with solar powered lanterns
- Supporting sustainable forestation projects in the UK
